Your Guide to Hypnotherapy: Frequently Asked Questions

Hypnosis is the use of a deep and relaxed state called a trance, during which the Hypnotherapist offers suggestions, to the client’s subconscious mind. These suggestions are based on changes which the client wants to pursue, and enhances the client’s ability to make these changes.

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy mean the same thing. The terms Hypnotist and Hypnotherapist are also interchangeable, with both terms relating to the therapist who is using Hypnotherapy on the client.
But note Hypnotherapists are not like stage Hypnotists! It is not entertainment for us, but a healing tool.

The conscious mind is that part of the mind which chatters away constantly to you, and is hard to turn off, even at will. It is like the tip of an iceberg. The subconscious mind is deeper, and is like the larger part of the iceberg, which is not seen above the water. The subconscious mind holds those deeper automatic responses, like jumping out of the way of a snake. The Hypnotherapist uses training of the client’s subconscious mind through making suggestions, to help create the changes that the client wants to make.

It is very rare for a person not to be able to be hypnotised. If that occurs, together we will look at other options available, to see if you can be helped to achieve your goals through another modality.

You are always in control during hypnosis and no one can make you do anything that you do not want to do.

Hypnotherapy can usually be used concurrently with traditional medicines, but it is a good idea to discuss it with your GP, so that we can work together to help you, with your consent.
